summer reading 2017

During the summers that I’m at home, rather than doing research in England, I like to catch up on some well-deserved pleasure reading. I’m lucky to live within walking distance of a great public library!

Here’s some of what I have been enjoying so far this summer.

because we all need gifs!

Animated gifs (which autocorrect really wants to turn into “gifts”) have taken on their own fascinating grammar and semantics over the past few years. Some of them make me twitchy, but there are two circulating this week that make me super happy and so I decided I needed to share them!

The first, Fortune’s Wheel:

And the second, possibly the funniest portrait of Elizabeth I ever:

Happy summer, everyone! Make time for merriment as well as work.

celebrating the bard’s birthday!

It’s Shakespeare’s 450th birthday this year. He looks pretty good for his age, doesn’t he?First Folio Shakespeare

I’m celebrating Will’s natal day in a few ways this year!

1) Hood College hosts an annual Peeps diorama contest each spring, and this year’s is Shakespeare-themed. How could I pass that up? Here’s my entry:

Et tu, Bunny?

2) I’m hosting a film screening and discussion with my colleague Mark Sandona on film versions of Richard III:

Richard III Colloquium

3) And … I’m working on a video about the different ways that you can enjoy Shakespeare using an iPad. Stay tuned – it will be posted soon!

Happy spring and happy birthday, Will Shakespeare!
